INTO NATURE: AUTUMN HIKES WITHOUT A CAR

Our Hotel Metropol does not only offer our guests the ideal location for city explorations, but is also the perfect starting point for wonderful autumn hikes in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps with no need for a car! Public transport from the nearby Central Station allows you to reach picturesque excursion destinations in less than one and a half hours.

A favourite classic in the surroundings of Munich is the Jochberg. From the summit cross at the height of 1,565 metres, you have a marvellous 360-degree view over the surrounding mountains and lakes. The height of 720 metres can easily be managed in three and a half hours. The Prinzenweg connects no less than two Bavarian lakes and the hike takes you from the Schliersee to the Tegernsee in three and a half hours. With a view of lake Chiemsee and Kampenwand mountain, you walk uphill and downhill from Schloss Hohenaschau until you reach your well-deserved snack after hiking. The pleasantly circular route on level ground around the Staffelsee is a destination for those not keen on the mountain tour – the whole way of 22 km takes you from and to Murnau in five hours.

Take the time to discover the Bavarian mountains in autumn: We will surely have suggestions for suitable excursion destinations and hikes for you.

KITCHEN WONDERS, ANTIQUES, FAIRGROUND RIDES – CHECK OUT THE AUER DULT

Munich’s traditional festival, the “Auer Dult”

It’s a fixed date on the Munich calendar to visit the Auer Dult in autumn! From the 15th to the 23rd of October, you can stroll once again through the so-called Kirchweihdult market in the Munich Au around the Mariahilfkirche church, and hunt for old and new treasures. You can find anything here: The Auer Dult is known as the biggest tableware market in Europe. Plates, cups, mugs and bowls in all colours and designs await you here. All kinds of household items can be found in the Neuheiten-Gasse: Kitchen wonders, household helpers and cleaning products – passionately offered by the merchants.

In addition, you can discover rarities and antiques, from an old book to historic traditional jewellery to an oil painting. If you’re not excited quite yet, there are rides, a puppet show and game booths too. On the culinary front, any Bavarian speciality your heart or stomach desires will be on offer, including Hendl (roast chicken) and Steckerlfisch (fish on a stick), Bratwurst (sausage) and Flammkuchen (a thin type of pizza), aromatic roasted almonds and chocolate fruits. Let’s go to the Dult!

THE “LONG NIGHT OF THE MUNICH MUSEUMS”

Art at night – discover the Munich museums

On 15 October it is finally that time again: During the “Long Night of the Munich Museums,” more than 70 museums, collections, galleries, art rooms and many other places open their doors and halls from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m. Nearly all big museums and art galleries take part in this, including the Alte Pinakothek, the Deutsche Museum, the Pinakothek der Moderne, the Museum Brandhorst, the Haus der Kunst, the Lenbachhaus, the Jewish Museum, the Munich City Museum, the Nazi Documentation Centre, the Villa Stuck, the newly renovated Glyptothek, the Bavarian National Museum and the State Museum of Egyptian Art. Science and technology museums as well as many other galleries, churches and special venues, are also open for exploration at night.

The unique diversity of the participating museums, the special atmosphere and the many activities and guided tours make this night an event that should not be missed.
